Abstract
The current development in the field of information and data transmission is driven by a constantly growing amount of data generated worldwide. Photonics offers promising high-speed data transmission, while traditional electrical connections reach their limits. This is particularly evident when comparing energy efficiency and space requirements. In the new field of the device communication (in addition to traditional data and telecommunication), there is a demand for 3D opto-mechatronic integrated devices (3D-Opto-MID). The challenges, going along with this, are addressed in this book.
