Abstract
Since 1972 the development of passenger transportation in German cities is being analysed by the household survey ‚Mobility in cities – SrV‘. In 2008, after the ninth survey in this series, it is the first time that a reduction of the percentage of car use over all journeys was registered. At the same time an increase in the use of public transport as well as bicycles was stated. These possibly are first indications for a new tendency which has some causes in changes of travel behaviour by several groups of persons. These and other important results of the recent SrV-Survey are documented in this article, also in connection with the nationwide travel behaviour survey ‚Mobility in Germany – MiD’. At first the most important details of organization and methodology of the SrV 2008 are presented.
