Abstract

Semifinis hed products are produced from glass fibre reinforced PTFE [PTFE/GF] materials which are processed to component parts by machining. The PTFE/GF waste cannot be recycled and is usually disposed at a landfill. The contribution describes a process to reuse PTFE/GF waste and to form materials for tribological application. After irradiation of the waster material (electron irradiation with 200 kGy) a PTFE miropowder with a glass fibre content was obtained. This micropowder was processed to chemically bonded PTFE polyamide 6 compounds. For comparison to the reused was pure PTFE materials were also irradiated, processed and investigated. All materials show similar low friction coefficients and an excellent wear resistance.
