Abstract
Additive manufacturing and textile reinforced concrete (TRC) are both highly topical research areas for the construction industry, both offering novel solutions to pressing problems of the industry. By combining the new material TRC with additive manufacturing methods, the advantages of both are kept and weaknesses eliminated. The authors propose a combination of TRC and additive manufacturing by utilizing a multi layered textile fixed in place at a few supporting points and printing concrete into and onto this textile formwork. Thereby, shell like structures can be produced using 3D concrete printing. Initial production trials demonstrate the viability of the proposed method.
