Abstract

Direct measurement of surface plasmon transmissivity of narrow grooves in thin silver films using near-field optical microscopy in an attenuated-total-reflection setup, was presented. Plasmon excitation was achieved by focusing a HeNe laser onto a thin metal film on a glass under total internal reflection. Results indicated a strong variation of transmissivity with surface groove width, and this was attributed to resonant plasmon mode coupling across the groove.
