Abstract
The Polish-German collaboration between Technische Universität Dresden, Institut für Leichtbau und Kunststofftechnik and the Institute of Composites and Powder Metallurgy at the Silesian University of Technology has resulted in a proposal of a material and technological conception based on utilizing the new material intended for operation in a liquid metal environment. The principle assumption of the project concerning to design and making a stirrer from a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) reinforced with a ceramic fibre (carbon, SiC or basaltic) has been shown in the article. The taking advantage of the merits of fibrous composites with a ceramic matrix, the merits including: resistance to thermal, mechanical and chemical action should contribute to enhancement of the stirrer’s durability compared to the existing solutions.
