Abstract

The steadily increasing adoption of high-performance carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) requires the development of appropriate repair methods. Given the anisotropic material with its load-adapted structure this is a very challenging task, since the material's geometrical and mechanical properties need to be restored. Based on an optimized jetting process for the particle-free layer removal of CFRP layup structures as well as on available knowledge about the failure behavior of repetitive geometrical interlock elements, two advantageous combinations of these two concepts are investigated and discussed. After specimen preparation and carry-out of repair, an evaluation of the potential of restoring the original material properties is made.
