Abstract

Fatigue behavior of carbon reinforced concrete under repeated tensile stress

During the last years, the number of bridges built out of or strengthened by carbon reinforced concrete increased. Therefore, its behavior under fatigue tensile loading gained in importance. However, corresponding systematical investigations are missing. In this paper, fatigue investigations on two different material combinations with epoxy resp. polyachrylate impregnated carbon textiles examined in tensile tests are presented. The investigations under repeated tensile stress took place at the Institute of Structural Concrete of RWTH Aachen University and the Institute of Concrete Structures of TU Dresden. On the basis of the test results S-N-curves could be determined and the fatigue strengths could be evaluated. Although both textile reinforcements show a quite different material behavior, the results are pleasing.
