Abstract

The management and digitalization of experimental-numerical validation and verification processes within product development (PD) for innovative, lightweight, high-performance composite materials is a major challenge due to increasing process chain complexity, highly heterogeneous data and the need to consider product-related data and processes over their entire life cycle. Methods for modeling the experimental and numerical validation process using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) concepts to manage and integrate data and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches to track data links and process steps are elaborated. A process roadmap is created including key processes, subprocesses and metadata for procedures in PD which are subsequently illustrated by an event-driven process chain showing linked processes, inputs/outputs, software needs and iteration points. This is used as a base to model key processes and their properties by creating customizable, connectable blocks in MBSE, where digital data is accessible through an interface linked by respective metadata in a PLMtool. Excerpts of linked processes and respective metadata are exemplarily shown for a hybrid composite structure to illustrate the potential of the elaborated approaches for improved PD efficiency through data reuse, workflow execution, consistent data management and traceability.
