Abstract

Due to the extensive standardization work in connection with Intelligent Transport Systems done by the ETSI committee, multiple Day 1 services such as Cooperative Awareness and Decentralized Environmental Service are already being tested on the road in various projects [1]. Besides, the focus is more and more changing from exclusively connecting vehicles with each other [1] towards creating an integral point of view including all kinds of road users, even vulnerable road users like pedestrians and bicyclists. Publishing the latest standardization document about the consideration of vulnerable road users in November 2020, ETSI has started to clear the path towards an active implementation of services like Collective Perception and Vulnerable Road User Awareness. In this paper possibilities on how the equipment of road users and infrastructure may be carried out in this context are described and consequences they may cause are prognosed.
