Abstract
Advanced concrete manufacturing increasingly relies on deformation processes at early ages, where hydration rapidly changes stiffness and strength while large inelastic strains may develop. Robust numerical modeling approaches for this transitional regime are therefore needed. This work presents a computational framework for simulating the mechanical behavior of fresh concrete during active hydration. A logarithmic-strain-based finite plasticity formulation is adopted, extended to softening regime, and augmented with a micromorphic gradient enhancement to regularize plasticity and enable stable simulations in the presence of softening. Hydration-driven stiffness and strength evolution is incorporated through a recruitment concept, complemented by an additional birth-strain contribution to ensure physically consistent kinematics under constraint during hydration. The formulation is implemented within a finite element platform and evaluated using representative numerical benchmarks, including material tests and manufacturing-inspired scenarios.
