Chair of Planning and Design of Railway Infrastructure

Organisational unit: Chair

Organisation profile

Former holder of the chair: Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Fengler
Succeeded as Chair of Railway Track Engineering

Consulting Services:

System engineering, operational and constructive infrastructure planning and layout of railway facilities.

Consultancy subjects are all scientific questions of system engineering as well as operational and of constructive infrastructure planning and layout being associated with the new construction or the upgrading of railway lines in conventional or novel technique. The consulting service covers all planing stages from the first draft until the detailed installation layout. For that purpose simulation models and topographic CAD models will be built if necessary in order to execute the requesite examinations.

Further consultancy subject are examinations on technical questions concerning the clearance of all types of railways such as static and kinematic envelope calculations and consideration of bottlenecks. We recommend possible solutions and develop expertises for homologations.

Superstructure

Consultancy subjects are scientific questions concerning the permanent way of railways and tramways. Particular attention is paid to the interactions between rail and vehicle as well as to the load and exposure of the track and its components. Moreover nearly all standard laboratory tests of superstructure components can be carried out.

Other consultancy service are examinations of interactions between vehicle and track in respect to the geometric conditions of track guiding based on appropriate track guidance directives
