At the Institute of Water Chemistry studies are conducted in the fields of water technology, water analytics and water protection. The main research topics are:

• Development and adaptation of analytical methods (special topic: organic water constituents)

• Occurrence and fate of water contaminants, assessment of the behaviour of contaminants in the environment, structure-property relationships

• Sorption and biodegradation in water/solid systems (e. g. vadose zone, groundwater, sediments)

• Investigation and simulation of processes during riverbank filtration

• Process design and process modelling in drinking water treatment and waste water treatment (special topics: adsorption, oxidation, electrochemical processes)
