Description

Technology and science have a long tradition in Saxony. But there is still a gender imbalance in career choices in our region. How does this come about? On UN Day 2025 in Dresden, we will be exploring the question of how early the gender gap in the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) arises, what global differences exist and how innovative teaching and learning formats can help to overcome educational inequalities.

In 2015, the member states of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a total of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In line with this year's focus topic "Education shapes the future", UN Day 2025 will specifically address SDG 4 "Quality education " .

We are looking forward to an exciting panel discussion, which will be introduced by Prof. Christian Leßmann (Professor of Economics, in particular International Economic Relations, TUD Dresden University of Technology) with a short keynote speech to get the audience in the mood for the topic and the discussion. Together with Prof. Edeltraud Günther (Director of UNU-FLORES), he will moderate the panel. Frank Bösenberg, Managing Director of Silicon Saxony, will shed light on the topic from the perspective of companies in Saxony. There will also be a welcome address from Jan Donhauser, First Mayor of the State Capital of Dresden and Alderman for Education, Youth and Sport.

The panel discussion will be followed by the 26th Local Agenda Awards Ceremony in the second part of the event.
