Documentation of AI-Generated Content in Scientific Publications

Activity: Talk or presentation at external institutions/eventsLectureInvited

Date

26 Feb 2026

Description

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming the way scientific work is produced. This week's Bits&Bytes lecture by Alexander Alfred Zyla explores the risks, challenges, and opportunities associated with documenting AI-generated content in science.
The focus lies on scientific practice, the potential applications in higher education, requirements for transparency, and practical approaches to properly labeling and ensuring traceability of personal contributions in AI-supported work. The discussion will address how the use of AI can be aligned with principles of scientific integrity and what standards might emerge in the future. Following the lecture, an open discussion will be held to bring together perspectives from various disciplines and collaboratively develop forward-looking solutions.
The goal is to foster a dialogue on responsible use of AI in science and to provide impulses for future guidelines at universities. The proposed approach to documenting AI-generated content in research also serves as a shared foundation for research projects, needs assessments, and collaborations involving AI use at universities and research institutions.
