Beschreibung

Directed mathematical graphs are an intuitive formal construct for representing a traffic infrastructure (road network, rail track system, and similar examples. They serve as an ecosystem in process planning (e.g., vehicle routing) and simulating vehicle operations in these networks. While process planning scenarios typically neglect the considered vehicles' physical dimensions (length, width), these vehicle properties need precise exploitation and consideration in simulation scenarios.
This talk reports ideas about the needed data (structures) and state updates to model vehicle movements along arc sequences. The main challenge is ensuring that vehicle interactions receive precise consideration. These interactions comprise, in particular, the avoidance of collisions and consistent queueing of vehicles operating on the same arc with different speeds.
The core approach comprises the setup of an iterative procedure that takes care of the consistent position update of a box of given length and given width along a given arc sequence. A central challenge is to ensure that the vehicle's front and tail position is consistently updated while this vehicle traverses an arc sequence as part of its schedule.
We demonstrate the appropriateness of the developed concept in a tram network simulation system. It ensures the determination of correct vehicle positions along the followed trajectories. Also, the procedure guarantees preserving the least separation distances between vehicles traveling at different speeds, leading to the avoidance of collisions.
