Abstract

The bond behaviour of carbon reinforced concrete has not yet been completely understood, even after many years of research on this topic. This is partly due to the continuous development of the textile reinforcement, causing varying bond mechanisms to become relevant. As one of these, concrete splitting as a bond failure mechanism has become focus of research more and more. The purpose of this paper is to examine which test methods can be used to characterize the bond behaviour of carbon reinforced concrete with splitting as the significant failure mode. The focus is on the determination of anchorage lengths - one of the most important bond-based questions in dimensioning. For this purpose various test methods are presented and influences of experimental setups and material parameters such as concrete cover and textile configuration on bond behaviour are shown, based on two material combinations. The result is a recommendation on how to handle current experimental setups, including an indication of flaws in the available test concepts and evaluation procedures.
