Abstract
On the design of composite dowel strips with clothoid shape under longitudinal and transverse shear loading. In recent decades, road bridges with orthotropically stiffened steel deck slabs have increasingly suffered fatigue damage due to the strong increase in traffic loads and insufficient design. In order to utilise the advantages of the lightweight construction method while at the same time eliminating significant problems, the ortho-composite deck slab with dowel strips (OC-slab) was developed at the TUD Dresden University of Technology as part of the AiF-FOSTA research project P 1265. In contrast to the design approval, the composite dowel strips in the OC-slab are subjected to shear loads in the longitudinal and transverse direction. The bond between the steel structure and the thin concrete layer is created in both directions with this construction method and utilised statically. Up to now, neither the load-bearing capacity nor the load-bearing behavior of composite dowel strips under transverse shear loading have been investigated. Due to the intentional low thickness of the reinforced concrete layer, deviations of the dowel strip geometry from the applicable design approval were necessary. In the research project P 1265, extensive experimental and structural-mechanical investigations of the load-bearing behavior of composite dowel strips in clothoid shape in the longitudinal and transverse directions were therefore carried out and design approaches were derived and verified from this. A summary of this is presented in this article.
