Abstract
While wisdom has been a topic of interest for philosophers for centuries, in more recent times psychologists have begun studying this challenging concept, and an increasingly substantial body of empirical wisdom research now exists. Here we present theory and findings that inform definitions of wisdom and approaches to assessing it, a model demonstrating how wisdom may develop in individuals, and finally show how the development of wisdom relates to mental health.
