Abstract

Within the bachelor thesis three free floating car-sharing systems in Berlin are examined by economic analysis. These three providers have been compared to each other. The extrapolations of costs and earnings have been made afterwards. To get the relevant information for the analysis, data set have been edited. Numbers of vehicles, rents per day and duration of a rent have been compared. In order to determine a revenue model for each provider, an extrapolation was made based on respective tariff rates and duration of driving per vehicle. The database provided the most important information to assess the costs of car sharing providers. For each provider the numbers of different vehicle models with the respective drive are determined and by using external data the portion of costs of each vehicle model was set. By taking into account further external information a de-tailed lists of costs of the providers could be analyzed. As largest cost factor the car pool could be identified. Based on the total estimated revenue and costs, an evaluation of the success of the operation was made, where only one provider could draw a positive balance. This is due to the fact of a high capacity utilization of vehicles of this provider. As a result, capacity utilization of the car pool is an important factor to achieve a positive balance.
