Abstract

The sense of smell contributes to quality life - although olfactory dysfunction is relatively frequent. Asking people about their olfactory function is often misleading. Using proper diagnostic tools olfactory function can be describer. In a clinical context psychophysical tests are most useful. In addition, electrophysiological measures may be helpful, e.g. olfactory event-related potentials. Therapy of olfactory dysfunction has only relatively few options.
