Abstract

Well-known business angels are people known to the general public who provide funding for young and innovative ventures. Celebrities in particular are increasingly filling the role of traditional business angels. However, unlike traditional business angels (Hellmann et al. 2023), media personalities aren’t known for their venture evaluation skills and rarely have a professional reputation as investors. It therefore remains unclear whether well-known investors can reliably signal a venture’s quality to outside stakeholders.
