Abstract
To fasten together two flat workpieces (7a,7b) of reinforced thermoplastic material, using rivet of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, cylindrical rivet blank (1) is moved by mandrel (2) towards bonding point. At bonding point, overlapping sheets are heated at clamping ring (10) for mandrel to pierce hole through them. When mandrel is in end position, the rivet head is shaped by heated tool (3). To fasten together two flat workpieces (7a,7b) of a thermoplastic material with fiber or textile reinforcement, using a rivet of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, a cylindrical rivet blank (1) of thermoplastics with a reinforcement of axial continuous fibers is moved by a mandrel (2) towards the bonding point. At the bonding point, the overlapping sheets are heated locally by heaters (4a,4b) at a clamping ring (10) for the mandrel to pierce a hole through them. When the mandrel is in an end position, the rivet blank is through the hole and the rivet head is shaped by a heated tool (3). An upper tool (15) gives a linear movement to the mandrel, rivet blank and head shaping tool forwards through the hole formed in the workpiece sheets.
