Geodata are nowadays used almost daily on the internet. In addition to a systematic organisation of the data in spatial data infrastructures, the challenge is to provide user interfaces that can be used intuitively by the data providers and users of the network services. This article discusses relevant approaches for the usability of geoportals and presents a methodology for designing a user-friendly geoportal using the example of Saxony’s Geoportal
