Abstract

For 60 mm three-layer industrial solid wood panels stored at a climate of 2°C and 90% rel. humidity and outdoor weathering under a roof, respectively, the moisture content was measured at different depths as a function of time. Additionally the moisture content was simulated using the software Delphin (TU Dresden). The investigation showed that - while stored in moist climate the equilibrium moisture content inside the panel is reached after approx. 6 months - while stored in outside climate under a roof the moisture changes take place mainly in the outer zone. The samples stored in changing climate showed a moisture profile over the entire investigation time. The moisture change inside the samples had a maximum of 4%. The simulation matched well the measured profiles. The occurring moisture profile increases the risk of cracking during the drying processing.
