Abstract

This paper examines current trends in mobility development in German cities. The findings are based on the project “Mobility in Cities – SrV”, which has been a core component of mobility research at TUD Dresden University of Technology for more than five decades. The 12th iteration of the SrV time series was conducted in 2023. The paper first outlines the context of SrV 2023 before describing key elements of the study design. The subsequent presentation of results focuses on cross-city trends, taking into account socio-demographic population groups, city groups, and area types. The analysis begins with developments concerning general mobility indicators and particularly relevant mobility options. Building on this, the paper proceeds to examine both trip-based and distance-based modal split. The paper thus provides important insights into the recent marked changes in the modal split in German cities.
