Abstract

Factory planning has always been an area with multidimensional requirements and is currently directly confronted with the tension between sustainability, economic uncertainty and shorter technology cycles. In response, methodological approaches are continuously developed and technological advances are integrated into factory planning processes. Consequently, the impression arises that current buzzwords in this conglomerate are increasingly mutually dependent. The article therefore first establishes fundamental links between factory planning and current boundary conditions in the areas of sustainability, volatility and digitalisation. Relevant keywords in research and trends in factory planning then underpin the individual tendencies. Based on this, theses are formulated that are intended to serve as a basis for discussion for an interested community. The article ends with a general overview of the next, presumed steps towards the convergence of trends and technologies in factory planning as well as the necessary derivation of follow-up initiatives.
