Abstract

Quality-assured pretherapeutic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of locally advanced rectal cancer enables optimal planning of perioperative treatment of this tumor entity. The present article discusses the quality criteria for MRI as well as their potential therapeutic implications. Furthermore, studies currently being conducted for the German Rectal Cancer Study Group by a multidisciplinary team of authors are presented.
