Abstract
The article is based on the multiple tensions that sociology is currently facing: firstly, its social relevance, especially in these times of crisis; secondly, the anti-science and anti-sociology attitudes that have become apparent since the pandemic and the debates on climate change; and thirdly, the increasingly precarious employment situation among mid-level staff (Mittelbau). In addition to the inadequate basic funding of the universities the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Temporary Academic Contracts) plays a large part in this.
