Abstract
This deliverable is summarizing the in-situ datasets collected in WP3, Task 3.5 (T3.5): Urban biogenic flux observations. The field observations were used as inputs to and parametrisations for biogenic models (WP2) and independently to evaluate biogenic model performance. Such data are typically available in ICOS for different vegetation ecosystem types (e.g. forests, grasslands, crops), but not for vegetated urban areas. T3.5 provides observations on processes driving biogenic CO2 exchange in heterogeneous urban landscapes. In the framework of T3.5, PAR sensors and Phenocams have been installed on the tall towers of each city. Soil sensors were also installed in selected urban green areas and autonomous sap flow stations were installed on selected trees. Moreover, ground truth measurements of soil respiration, plant photosynthesis and leaf area index (LAI) were collected during field repeated campaigns. The observations were performed at selected green sites near the tall tower of each city. The selected sites were either urban parks, street alleys, urban canyons or urban forests. The Zurich sites were 4 urban parks, in Munich there were three urban parks, one street alley and one urban canyon and in Paris the observations focussed on two separate sites: Romainville (1 park, 1 street alley) and Vincennes (urban forest, park/garden). All micrometeorological, bioclimate and plant physiological variables measured will be ultimately used to estimate 24-month time-series of biogenic CO2 fluxes (photosynthesis, plant and soil respiration) at the field measurement locations per city according to calibrated semi-empirical models (Deliverable 3.14)
