Abstract
How to engage members in RDM topics while showcasing personal achievements? Inspired by discussions at an RDM meetup, the idea emerged to create an "Achievement Badge" system where participants can track and display their accomplishments during conferences. These badges aim to visually represent individual contributions while fostering conversations among peers. The proposed badge incorporates gamification elements, similar to those used on platforms like GitHub. Each accomplishment is represented by a point or icon, encouraging participants to check off their achievements and maintain motivation. Two concepts have been proposed for implementation: Badge with "SHARE": This version features letters that can be marked or stamped, with "SHARE" as the focal word. Each letter corresponds to a specific achievement, for which explanations will be provided on accompanying A3/A4 sheets. The achievements include: S: Storage of Data - Regularly back up research data securely. H: Handling of Persistent Identifiers - Own a persistent identifier like ORCID. A: Accessibility of Data and Metadata - Utilize open data formats and standards. R: Repository for Publishing Data/Software - Publish work in a public repository with a reusable-friendly license. E: Electronic Lab Notebook - Document research using an electronic lab notebook. Badge with CC0 Pictograms: This alternative utilizes CC0 icons that participants can mark off, providing flexibility in design and tasks. The "RDM Achievement Badge" was originally conducted and presented at the "6. SaxFDM-Tagung" in Dresden, 20-21. Nov. 2025.
