Abstract
In this article, the design of a sensor network tailored for first responders and integrated in the E-SPONDER
platform is presented. One key feature of such a system will be a highly accurate local positioning system (LPS) capable of 3D positioning for both indoor and outdoor scenarios. Furthermore, we will show a network of sensors highly integrated with innovative garments in order not only to protect first responders but to enable continuous health monitoring. We will also present a scalable and adaptive telecommunication architecture ensuring a voice, video and data link of the first responders to the command center at all times based on a hierarchical structure. Last but not least, we will present the platform integrating the above features, which is to be worn by the first responders. Keywords—sensor networks, radar, local positioning
