Abstract

Lagrangian dynamics method is mostly a scalar method of formulating multi degrees of freedom complex systems and is much easier as compared with Newton’s method, which is a vector method. This paper evaluates the ride comfort of a 13 degrees-of-freedom four-wheel roadway vehicle model. Lagrangian method is used to formulate the mathematical full car model of roadway vehicle. The roadway vehicle is excited under vertical and lateral road surface undulations, considered random time functions. The ride comfort of the vehicle is evaluated using ISO 2631 criteria. The total value of weighted RMS acceleration of the sprung mass C.G. is evaluated as 2.34 m/s2, which lies in the category 'very uncomfortable' vehicle ride index as per ISO 2631-1 criteria.
