Abstract
With the onset of implementations of various, platform-specific quantum technologies - including, but not limited to, quantum sensors, quantum computers, quantum transducers, and quantum communication networks - there is now an increased consideration of their involvement in research industries such as telecommunications and finance, as well as their integration with planned next-gen smart cities and metropolitan networks encompassing IoT (Internet of things) and tactile internet applications. These sectors tend to require ultra-high reliability in tandem with low-latency specifications for optimal functioning, hence demanding that the aforementioned technological solutions be resilient to disturbances ranging from natural perturbations to malicious attacks even after deployment. This paper discusses an established resilience engineering paradigm that is amenable to be utilized when developing quantum technology for integration with future metropolitan networks and tactile internet realizations. The paper then provides a brief survey of cutting-edge quantum technology advancements in various application sectors, with interwoven highlights that propound the necessary resilience engineering principles to be applied specific to the technology involved during development as well as deployment.
