Abstract
This contribution describes the most salient (morpho)syntactic features of
scientific Italian, focusing on the characteristics found at phrase and clause
levels. The specificities identified, which become evident through a comparison
with the common use of the Italian language, are valid for the most part
regardless of the scientific discipline considered and can be explained based on
general pragmatic and textual characteristics such as objectivity and algidity,
abstraction and specialization, economy and clarity of exposition.
