Abstract

The increasing complexity of software-based functions in the automotive sector presents new challenges to the validation of such systems. Traditional processes and methods must be re-evaluated and, if necessary, modified. Virtual test methods using virtual Electronic Control Units (vECUs) can be a key enabler in this regard. However, as system complexity increases, so does the effort required to set up these test environments. This paper proposes an approach based on a specific example of how such efforts can be minimized. For this purpose, vECUs are used for brake control systems, which can be tested in a simulation environment. The AUTOSAR standard is used to simplify the system without changing the software functions. Specifically, the approach evaluates the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) function based on certain evaluation criteria, enabling the neglect of functions that do not play a role in the evaluation. To validate the approach, a simulation environment was set up and compared to real vehicle measurements, enabling fast and cost-effective testing of a specific function with reliable results.
