Abstract
Background: Treatment for endometrial cancer is changing. The additional determination of molecular subtypes makes treatment more individual. This also affects surgical treatment. The necessity of lymphadenectomy in endometrial cancer has not been conclusively clarified. Materials and methods: This work is based on a selective literature search in the PubMed database and is based on the German and European guidelines. Results: Lymphadenectomy in endometrial cancer has been given priority in both the current German and European guidelines. Depending on the tumor stage and molecular subtype, sentinel node biopsy or systematic pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy is recommended. Conclusions: The importance of lymphadenectomy in endometrial cancer remains unclear. Further studies, such as the Endometrial Cancer Lymphadenectomy Trial (ECLAT), are needed to clarify the role of surgery in endometrial cancer.
