Abstract

A number of commercially used methods of carbon fiber surface treatment are reviewed. These include wet oxidation in aqueous oxidizers, dry oxidation at high temperature in oxidized gases, and anodic oxidation, which is a variant of wet oxidation involving electrolysis. The authors then discuss the problem of adhesion in laminated composites with special matrix-fiber combinations and review the results of their own studies of the impact strength of carbon-fiber reinforced composites.
