Abstract
Numerical simulation of tempered glass fracture behavior. In this contribution, the failure behavior of glass is reproduced using numerical approaches. In this context, the fracture behavior of thermally toughened glass is simulated using the finite element method. A fracture model is applied to describe the dynamic fragmentation. To simulate the fragmentation process within a reasonable computational time, a parallelized finite element program is used. The simulation results show that the fracture approach is capable of simulating the dynamic crack branching and merging, as well as the formation of fragments, which can take place in thermally toughened glass panes.
