Abstract

Carbon textile reinforcement (CTR), a CFRP-based reinforcement for concrete, offers high tensile
strength, flexibility, low weight, and excellent corrosion resistance. These properties enable the design
of thin, lightweight, and durable concrete elements with reduced material consumption while
maintaining high load-bearing capacity. One approach is to resolve the compact cross-section of
ceilings by shell-like substructures. However, accurate modelling of such elements remains
challenging. For extensive parametric studies, a finite element (FE) program must provide reliable
results with reasonable computational effort. In this study, Abaqus and ATENA were evaluated, with
ATENA showing better performance. Explicit modelling options were used, and the results were
compared with experimental outcomes. The numerical load-deflection response closely matched the
experimental results, showing the reliability of the modelling approach and supporting the use of FEM
to predict TRC behaviour.
