Abstract
The authors have developed, fabricated and tested electrostatic-discharge (ESD) protection switches based on electron field emitters and examined their behaviour as microwave components in connection with GaAs devices. The work was motivated by the need for protection circuits to prevent ESD degradation or destruction of microwave semiconductor devices and circuits, because such protection circuits are not yet available for these frequency ranges.
