Morphogenesis: Sticking together and holding apart to shape a globular organ

Abstract

Many organs form globular structures, but how this is achieved is poorly understood. New work identifies an important role for an extracellular matrix and cellular projections in attaining the globular shape of halteres, flight balancing organs of dipteran insects.
