Abstract

Networked control systems (NCSs) couple communication behavior with closed-loop control performance, making reliability dependent on both network conditions and control requirements. This paper proposes architectural and modelintegration extensions to the Open Network Operating System (ONOS) software-defined networking (SDN) controller to improve NCS reliability while retaining the adaptability of softwarebased hybrid data planes. The proposed communication model subsystem integrates an explicit communication network model and control-domain information through ONOS-style application and manager components while interacting with existing subsystems such as Flow Rule and Statistics. The paper also presents a reliability-oriented evaluation strategy that combines mandatory closed-loop constraints with graded communication and control KPIs for comparison against a baseline ONOS architecture.
