Abstract

As part of a ZIM project, the ITM developed an innovative metallization process with metallic silver for the wet-chemical finishing of films and filament yarns made of aromatic, high-temperature resistant, non-melting, flame-retardant and inert polyimide high-performance polymers. This is a significant progress in the metallization technology of inert aromatic textile materials and foils. The aim of the development was a new, industrially suitable wet-chemical process for the economical production of silver-coated, high-temperature resistant filament yarns and foils in reproducible quality. This goal was achieved in cooperation with the project partner Statex by using the company's conventional equipment and machines without any restrictions. Aromatic Kapton PI films from DuPont de Nemours GmbH, Neu-lsenburg/Germany, and PI filament yarns P84from Evonik Fibers GmbH, Schorfling/Austria, were used.
