Abstract

Correct and reliable metrology is one of the key challenges in the transformation in electrical power supply. The increasing use of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission demands the correct and accurate measuring of new voltage types. These include, in particular, composite voltages. Composite voltages occur in the case of external or internal overvoltages in DC networks. Hence, they are part of dielectric HVDC component tests to ensure reliable operation over several decades. Thereby, the appropriate measuring equipment must correctly measure all voltage components of a composite voltage. However, the current standardisation lacks procedures for the calibration or qualification of measurement equipment to measure composite voltages. Therefore, the following investigation contributes to the standardisation by comparing a developed universal voltage divider for the measurement of composite voltages with a commercially available one in two different laboratories. Measurements were carried out using both dividers and then determining and comparing the measurement deviations between different parameters. It is shown that although both dividers comply with the current standardisation, there were differences in
the measurement deviations in different laboratories, especially for the omposite voltage stresses.
