Abstract

The use of liquids in the space between panes is intended to increase the energy efficiency of glass facades. Considering the aesthetic demands on modern glass facades and the desire for a maximum degree of glazing, a bonded edge seal without additional mechanical clamping is preferred. The research project fluidIGU examines the use of various adhesives for edge sealing. By using a multi-layer structure, the stress is to be distributed to different functional layers. This article gives an overview of fluid-filled facade elements and limits the application range of the planned edge seal system. Furthermore, the experimental program for the selection of adhesives is presented, an insight into the current results is given and a first conclusion is made.
