Abstract
The present paper addresses the question of whether outsiders in science (and other epistemically interested groups) can be rational. This question is addressed on three levels: the level of beliefs of outsiders, the level of decisions of outsiders, and the level of assertions of outsiders. It is argued that outsiders can indeed be rational but only within tightly constrained limits.
