Abstract
Istanbul is a city that functions as a bridge between Asia and Europe and aims to make better use of this strategic advantage. In addition to the vision of transforming the city into a global financial center, the Istanbul New (Third) Airport Project was initiated to establish the city as an international hub for transit, maintenance, and repair services. This study evaluates the contributions of the new airport to the country and its spatial impacts. The aim of the study is to explore ways to ensure the planned and controlled development of the surrounding area of the new airport and to minimize the project’s negative impacts on the city. A combination of methods including literature review, field research, in-depth interviews, and observations was employed in the research.
