Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Grid, Industry 4.0 are all examples for concepts that have the intent to massively interconnect huge amounts of small embedded systems. The promised benefit is enormous, just as the risks from an IT-security standpoint, particularly because the considered devices are cheaply designed consumer products with only its functionality in mind. In this paper, first the current situation concerning security and privacy is described after which possible strategies on how to improve the situation are suggested.
