Abstract
Many gynecological and obstetric conditions require psychosomatic psychotherapeutic care. Pregnancy, other threshold situations and critical life events can trigger adaptation problems, which are often accompanied by feelings of guilt, reduced self-esteem and increased anxiety for the women affected. Furthermore, oncological diseases, functional sexual disorders or endometriosis also require women to make gender-specific adjustments. The complaints of chronic pelvic pain, peripartum depression, pregnancy with pre-existing trauma and the unfulfilled desire to have children are presented. Central aspects of psychotherapeutic treatment include appreciation and validation, understanding intrapsychic and/or interpersonal conflicts as well as maladaptive thoughts and behavioral patterns, activation of resources, learning mindfulness and relaxation strategies, psychoeducation and the development of supportive social networks.
